Lviv Ladies and Landmarks
‘Lviv: the City and its Women’ exhibition by Lviv artists Roman Zhuk and Sergiy Gorobets, Ukrsotsbank central office gallery, 10, Mitskevycha Square. Running throughout April
With the credit crunch biting into most people’s incomes few would think of venturing into a bank for pleasure, but throughout April one of Lviv’s biggest banking institutions will be inviting art-lovers and romantics to come over to their central office gallery, where they can forget about the recession for a moment and celebrate the soul of the city and its inspiration, Lviv’s women. This attractive photo project, which is being held within the framework of the ‘With Love to Women – 2009’ international photo festival, is the brainchild of Lviv personality and arts patron Yuriy Titovets. The exhibition captures some of Lviv’s best-known landmarks but manages to avoid becoming banal, while the bewitching portraits of Lviv’s ladies are a snatched moment in time which scratches at the surface of what is a hugely enticing genre which continues to inspire the artistic souls of the city.
