Gathering of World-Class Brains
Statistical Physics: Modern Trends and Applications, International Conference, June 23-25, Institute of
Condensed Matter Physics
This keynote scientific event is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Professor Mykola Bogolubov, the Ukrainian scientist whose work did much to develop the field of quantum physics. An exhibition about the life and scientific activities of Bogolyubov will be presented during the conference. This exhibition is intended to be mobile and to remain on display until September 2009, during which time it will go on tour and be exhibited to audiences across Ukraine.
The organizers of the exhibition also plan to publisha collection of photographs and memoirs about Bogolyubov as part of their efforts to raise his profile among contemporary Ukrainians. This conference itself is organised by the Institute for Condensed Matter Physics (Lviv, Ukraine) and is also being held in honour of the 40th anniversary of the Department of Statistical Theory of Condensed States at the National Institute for Theoretical Physics in Kyiv, which formed the basis of the Institute for Condensed Matter Physics.
The Conference will be organized in the form of guest lectures and presentations. In a bold move by event organisers, the official language of the conference will be English. Topics for discussion include quantum systems, soft condensed matter, cooperative phenomena and phase transitions, non-equilibrium and transport phenomena and the more exotic problems of statistical physics.
