LVIV SATIRE ON SHOW
Lviv has always been a city of biting political commentary where a quick wit has often been as valued as a measured opinion, so it goes without saying the Lviv school of political satire has always been among the most vibrant in Ukraine. In Soviet times this art form was finely honed by years of tight government censorship, leaving local connoisseurs with the most delicate of pallets. On 5 April an exhibition at Lviv Art Palace showcased this local enthusiasm for political satire with an exhibition of caricatures by a number of Lviv artists. “This type of art cannot be learnt – it is all
about challenging society,” commented participating partist Valeriy Nesterenko.
