 The 9th annual ‘Jazz Bez’ Lviv international Jazz Festival, December 4-13. At venues across
town including Lviv Philharmonic Theatre (Chaykovskoho Str., 7), National Academic Ukrainian
Drama Theatre named after Maria Zankovecka (L. Ukrainka Str., 1) and JazzClub.Lviv.

This year’s Jazz Bez festival will be more improvisational and international than ever, with a wide range of experimental jazz practitioners from all over the world descending on Lviv for what promises to be a cosmopolitan ten days of jamming across town. This international borderline jazz marathon will combine talents from such Ukrainian and Polish cities as Lviv, Ternopil, Sevastopol, Lutsk, Kyiv and Przemyśl, Lublin and Sianok. In total over one hundred musicians from the USA, Germany, Denmark, Japan, Great Britain, France, Russia, Byelorussia, Poland and Ukraine will appear on the stage.
Highlights will include a performance from the unique vocal talent of Mariyana Sadovska (dubbed ‘the Ukrainian Bjork by the local media) plus the premiere of jazzman Tomas Kudik’s new project ‘New Bone’. Topping the bill at this year’s festival will be four-way improvisation session featuring Frenchmen Michel Doneda and Frederic Blondi alongside Ukrainian jazz authority Yuriy Yaremchuk and celebrated Japanese percussionist Tasui Nakatani. Tickets are available at Dzyga Art Centre (35, Virmenska Str.), or at the ticket desks of Lviv’s Philharmonic Society and National Academic Ukrainian Drama Theatre. Season tickets to all eight of the leading concert performances of the festival programme are available for UAH 800. Students, cultural sphere workers and members of Lviv’s Jazz Club can expect to enjoy further discounts.
