Eurofan Contest Boosts Lviv’s Euro 2012 Credentials
As Lviv struggles to meet UEFA’s November 30 deadline to prove it is fit to host games during Euro 2012 the city received a timely boost in the shape of the fun and well-attended Eurofan-2009 tournament between teams made up of rival sets of supporters from some of the continent’s most famous clubs. This was the third year in which Lviv has hosted the lovely festival and this time it attracted a record number of entries, with teams from England, the Czech Republic, Italy, Spain and Croatia among those taking part. The eventual winners were the fans of Glasgow Rangers, who defeated local heroes Karpaty Lviv 4-1 in the final. Meanwhile, Italy’s Inter Milan took third place. Fans mingled freely throughout the tournament amid a social and international atmosphere, and will on doubt reporting to friends and relatives back home that Lviv is a fantastic city and absolutely football crazy! If only Euro 2012 itself could be as easy as that!
