Celebrating a Ukrainian Musical Legend
Early March saw Lviv Opera House host a string of concerts to mark the 60th anniversary of the legendary Ukrainian composer Volodymyr Ivasyuk, who despite dying in mysterious circumstances when just 30 years of age in 1979 made a huge contribution to the development of Ukrainian pop music. Lviv stars including Taras Chubay and his group “Plach Yeremiy”, and the popular vocalists of "Pikardiyska terciya" were joined by the Lviv Virtuosos and many more as the spiritual capital of Ukraine paid tribute to a young man who died tragically but whose works are still remembered fondly by Ukrainians all over the world.
