WHERE ART MEETS AGRICULTURE
On October 10, ‘Agricultura’, an exhibition of works by Stanislav Silantiev, opened at Lviv’s Art Palace. The young Lviv-based artist skilfully combines the aesthetics of pop-art with traditional Ukrainian primitivism, creating a blend of ‘everyday’ rural and city life. Not afraid to use distinct examples of kitsch, Silantiev produces works with strong pastoral and urban references. The artist defines his style as ‘conceptual primitivism’ with elements of social reflexivity through colour and shape. ’Agricultura’ is both a critique and celebration of contemporary living, and the exhibition provoked a lot of discussion amongst the Lviv artistic community.
