The Protection of the Mother  of God is one of the most beloved  holidays in the Orthodox church  and is also celebrated with particular  gusto by Ukrainian patriots  as it marks the anniversary of the  foundation of Ukrainian Insurgent  Army of WWII. This year’s anniversary  was marked by a fun demonstration  of ancient Cossack martial  skills from the Lviv-based Kish  Cossack re-enactment society.
